A properly built fence will last you up to 20 years or more. A poorly built fence may only get you a few years before repairs are needed. So how do you know which type you will be getting?

First, start with a reputable professional. A professional has his reputation and business life on the line, so they are going to ensure you are happy with their performance and that their fence lasts a long time. One of the easiest ways is to check with the Better Business Bureau to see what information they have on the company. You can also ask for referrals from customers who have used their service.

Second, make sure you are getting quality materials. The type of material used directly impacts the length of life as well as the appearance of your fence. A long lasting fence also benefits the environment and your pocketbook.

Third, understand the strength and weakness of your fence design. Where is the fence likely to fail first? What effect will rain / water sprinklers have on it? What affect will the sun's UV rays have? How will strong winds effect it? How deep do the posts need to be? Does the concrete need to be at or above ground level? What type of fasteners are best to use?

Fourth, make sure your contract specifies all of the details you are concerned with. Materials should be detailed as well as how the fence will be constructed. Many contractors will give you a very vague contract so they can use cheap materials as well as not be responsible for the results if their final product does not meet your expectations.

Anderson Mill Fence will listen to your needs and then advise as to the best materials to meet your needs and budget. We will explain the pro's and con's of choices and then detail our bid so you know exactly what you are getting. We look forward to hearing from you.
